| Description: | Recording for Asian Connections Project. Length 44 minutes, 4 seconds Track 1 Came to UK from Malaysia in Sept. 1974 to study Civil Engineering. No contact with father's family. Mother died when young from TB. Lived with grandmother who ran business as goldsmiths. School was only half day not a lot of friends. Loved Indian food. Malaysia at the time did not favour Chinese citizens so came to UK to further education. Worked for government to raise money to come to UK. Met future wife almost immediately whilst briefly staying in London. Attended Dundee Uni. Stayed in Halls and worked in restaurant to help pay for life and Uni' fees. Married in Scotland and Malay family was not pleased with choice of English lady,. Had a first child (daughter) early in time here 1975. Intended to get degree and return to Malaysia but that changed as time passed. |
