Connect & Collect Service

We're delighted to share that our Connect and Collect service is back.

The popular service - which had helped nearly 83,000 books go out on loan last year during Covid restrictions - had been put on hold in December.

One change is that collections will be at pre-arranged timeslots and at the door.

Complete either an Adult Library Form or a Junior Library Form to place a Connect and Collect order now.  Alternatively you can phone a library and talk through what you would like with a member of staff. We will then put together a collection of up to 10 books for you to collect from the library door. See the library opening hours and phone numbers HERE.

You can enjoy so much more with Connect and Collect:

  • 10 books will be given out as a 'Lucky Dip' selection
  • Special ‘limited edition’ selections will be coming back once we move back to limited browsing
  • ‘Golden tickets’ with surprise prizes
  • No collection in-branch, this will only be at the front door (remember face masks please)
  • Available for our Home Delivery and Mobile customers.

To ensure we can meet demand, loans will be limited to a maximum of 10 books and  you can bring back books you already have out when you collect your bag of new books to take home and enjoy.

There's also other great news! You can request books again from our online catalogue www.onfife.com/librarycatWe were busy buying some new stock while we were closed and it's ready to be delivered to our libraries. We can only take requests for books we have in stock at the moment, but if there's something we don't have that you'd like to see in stock, you can let us know and we'll consider it for next time we are buying.
You can make a request if you have your library card number and PIN.  Can't remember your card number or PIN?  Just contact your local library and one of our staff will help you out.

Not a library member? Sign up online today to start using our Connect & Collect service!

You tell us what kind of books you like to read – for example, contemporary crime fiction or historical romance – and our library teams will put together a collection of up to 10 books then give you a call when they're ready.

How do I go about using Connect & Collect?

Fill in the forms using the links above or alternatively you can call the library to tell us what kind of books you’d like in your collection. We will then give you a call to tell you when your books are ready to be collected.

Why can't I come in to pick my books or use the PCs?

Part of the guidance for libraries while we're in Tier 4 is that we must give priority to the Connect & Collect service. So that we have the staff levels to do that in all the branches we have open across Fife, we need to put a temporary hold on browsing and access to the PCs.

How long will this be for?

We hope it won't be for long but we can't give a date just now - however, we are determined to bring back browsing as quickly as we can.

Can I return books?

Yes. Please bring them along in a bag that you don’t need to be returned.

Will I have overdue book charges?

We currently aren't charging any fines so don't worry about your books being overdue. Just drop them off when you can so we have more choice for readers.

Can I return books even if I don't want to collect new ones?

Due to the restrictions unless you have a time slot with us you won't be able to drop off your read books.  You can book a slot with the team to drop the books off though.

Is it safe?

Yes. All our protective measures are fully in line with the latest Scottish Government and public health advice. All books returned are quarantined for 72 hours before being processed by staff, but there will be some handling in making up your collection so your are advised to leave the books for 72 hours before reading them and you can also wipe down plastic covers with anti-viral wipes.

What can I expect when I go to collect my books?

You will be asked for your name and postcode to make sure you get the right bag. Please bring your library membership card if you have one. If you have joined the library online and don't have your card yet, please bring both proof of address and photo ID. We are trying to avoid queues but please be aware that you may have to queue.

When you’re returning books, there will be a box near the door so that you can put the books directly into it.

What branches are operating Connect & Collect?

The branches are Benarty, Buckhaven, Burntisland, Cadham, Cardenden, Cowdenbeath, Cupar, Dalgety Bay, Duloch, Dunfermline Carnegie, Kennoway, Kirkcaldy Galleries, Ladybank, Leslie, Leven, Lochgelly – Jennie Lee Library, Methil, Newburgh, Newport, Oakley, Rosyth, Rothes Halls, Tayport, Templehall, St Andrews, St Monans, Valleyfield and Windmill.

Why isn’t my branch open?

Not all our buildings are suitable to make fully compliant with Scottish Government and public health guidance protective measures at this time. However, we are regularly reviewing the situation and will keep you updated through our website and social media.

Can I use another branch for Connect & Collect?

Yes. We’ve tried to ensure that even if your local branch is not operating, there is another branch within reasonable travelling distance.
