Historical Background: Samuel Greig was born in the Fife port of Inverkeithing in 1736. After service in the Royal Navy he was selected to go to Russia to assist the navy of Catherine the Great. His distinguished service against the Turks and Swedes saw him rise to become an Admiral. He died in 1788 and was buried in Tallinn Cathedral in Estonia.
